Well, first of all apologies for being so inactive for the past couple of months. I want to believe I’ve been so busy😊😊 lol.
Let’s talk about stress today, shall we🙌..am currently experiencing acute stress Why? So I submitted a request for a particular rotation 2 weeks ago and I was so certain that I was going to get it but lo and behold I didn’t get it. I put all my eggs in one basket(that’s is even my major stressor) I should have opted for an alternative..My next rant would be about clinical rotations in St Vincent and the GRENADINES.
So why are we talking about stress, if there is one thing that humans have in common,then that one thing is stress. And we all respond to stress in different ways. Too much stress eventually leads to health problems.
Stress is a very common word that we all throw around . Infact I think the word has been bastardized.
In St vincent , their favorite words ; stress and harass 😑 .you are either stressing them or harassing them.(talk for another day)
According to Cleveland clinic Definition “Stress is your body’s reaction to change that requires an adjustment or response”
In simple English, when your body shift from it’s default mode into usually a fight/ flight mode. The feeling you get when you are overwhelmed, overloaded and struggling to cope with demands or alterations. The feelings you experience is as a result of this fight/ flight mode or mechanism. Two main hormones are released during this mode; Adrenaline and cortisol. The physical symptoms you get are triggered by this hormones.
Your body was designed in such a way that it react to the slightest change and I guess over the years we’ve known the word stress to be a negative word but in actual fact stress is your body’s reaction to any change at all that requires an adjustment or reshaping. So it doesn’t have to be a negative stressor. Moving houses is a stressor,giving birth is a stressor, changing phones (from IphoneX to IPhone 11)😁 is a stressor but these are all positive stressor. So the triggers doesn’t have to be a negative stressor, But usually the feelings you get are negative.
How you react and deal with these feelings can help you reduce the effects of the stress;
One is to recognize your own stressor then figure out what will destress your stressor 😁😁😁😁😁 most people have somethings that helps them relax and destress; spending time with friends, spending time with God (this really helps) listening to music as well.. really you can’t exhaust this list. There are tons of destressing activities..Go online and be knowledge about them.
Get a support system, I personally find this to be very effective. So develop a network of social support for example if you ain’t the friendly type, start learning to say hi to people, complement their looks or outfit, through that you are establishing conversations and what this does for you is that, it for a moment takes your mind off the stressor.
Also have an optimistic outlook, change the way you view a stressful event. For example, after I was told that the rotation wasn’t going to be available all the wires in my head were all over the place, they disconnected infact I was God this wasn’t the plan bla bla bla,yadi yadi yada…lol..I was just basically ranting and he said to me all things work together for good to them that love me, even with these words I was still ranting in my head..but eventually my wires reconnected 😆😆😆😆. So have a positive outlook..this really will keep you sane and lucid.
After you’ve done all of these things and you still ain’t seeing result, then talk to a doctor ( talk to me_**winks**) we usually suggest therapy(ies) and some certain medication..
